Tuesday, 20 November 2007

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The theme chosen for the 2007 session of Social Weeks of France “Living differently to promote sustainable development and solidarity” reflects the organisers' concern for the “evils" afflicting the earth, their impact on disadvantaged peoples and the consequences for future generations. Vatican Radio reports that in a Message for the event Pope Benedict XVI writes "the poorest countries always suffer the most serious consequences mainly caused by the behaviour of the industrialised world and confidence, often excessive, in scientific and technological progress". The Pope expressed the hope that the projects "will lead to a more equal distribution of natural resources and goods of the earth, and a regulated exploitation of forests and biological reserves ".
- To rebuild schools in Ica, destroyed in the earthquake on August 15, Caritas Peru has received a some of money from the Fondazione BBVA (Banca Continentale). Thanks to the sum schools will be rebuilt and modernised for the benefit of hundreds of pupils affected by the earthquake.
- The interdisciplinary Centre for Social Communications at the Pontifical Gregorian University (CICS) has organised a Curso Virtual de Radio to train Catholic media operators in Latin America and Spain. (C.E.) (Agenzia Fides 20/11/2007; Righe 18 - Parole 234)
