Tuesday, 9 October 2007

Washington (Agenzia Fides) - ‘Global Health in the 21st century: a Road Map for International Collaboration’ is the theme of an international panel discussion at the Italian Embassy in Washington on 11 and 12 October, promoted by Italian NGO present in 39 countries around the world. The discussion will be coordinated by Dr. Vittorio Daniore, Italian Embassy scientific study director .
One of the speakers Dr Filippo Ciantia, AVSI representative for the Great Lakes Region of Africa (in Africa for 30 years), will illustrate activity in Uganda to prevent mother to child transmission of the HIV/AIDS virus, a programme coordinated by AVSI in collaboration with the Ugandan health ministry and thanks to generous private and public donors, such as Cooperazione Italiana allo Sviluppo, which aims to help HIV+ mothers bear healthy babies, thanks to treatment, information and prevention on the territory and greater access to health care for AIDS patients and their families. In 2006, 33,679 mothers and babies benefited from the AVSI programme. (AP) (9/10/2007 Agenzia Fides; Righe:20; Parole:222)
