ASIA/MYANMAR - The Pope appoints auxiliary of Yangon

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI on 16 July 2007 appointed Auxiliary Bishop of the archdiocese of Yangon (Myanmar) Rev. Justin Saw Min Thide, until now bursar of the archdiocese of Yangon diocese, assigning to him the titular see of Lemfocta.

Rev. Justin Saw Min Thide was born on 26 March 1951 in Thaung, Twante, in the archdiocese of Yangon. After attending the diocesan minor seminary and Pre-Major Seminary in Yangon, he entered St Joseph's Major Seminary for Theology in Yangon. He was ordained a priest on 19 March 1984 for the archdiocese of Yangon. He has ministered as follows: 1984-1987: parish priest at Theizeik; 1988: parish priest at Mergui; 1989: bursar of the archdiocese; 1990-1992: Studies for a Licentiate in Philosophy at the Pontifical Urban University in Rome while residing at the Pontifical Collegio San Pietro Apostolo; 1992-2003: professor and then vice rector of the Major Seminary for Philosophy at Pyin Oo Lwin; 2003: (April to June) parish priest at Maubin; from the month of June bursar of the archdiocese.
