Lomé (Fides News Agency) – “Promoting the effective use of digital technologies to proclaim the Gospel, share missionary experiences and strengthen collaboration.” This is the aim of a training course on multimedia communication, artificial intelligence and the use of a shared digital platform, taking place from 20 to 23 October at the provincial headquarters of the Comboni Missionaries in Cacaveli, Lomé.

More than 20 people are taking part in the initiative, including a Comboni Missionary Sister, Comboni lay missionaries and lay collaborators involved in parish life and various pastoral activities across the Togo-Ghana-Benin Province. According to a statement issued by the Comboni Missionaries, the course is aimed in particular at those responsible for communications and missionary animation within the Province. Its purpose is to provide them with the tools and skills needed to produce multimedia content for social media and for the digital platform shared by the French-speaking Comboni Provinces.

The training sessions are being led by Father Fabrizio Colombo, an Italian Comboni Missionary; Charles Ayetan, from Togo, president of the African Catholic Union of the Press (UCAP); and Jacob Brahim Konfé, from Burkina Faso.
At the opening of the course, Father Fidèle Katsan, Provincial Superior, thanked the formators for their willingness to travel to Togo and take part in person. Their participation had initially been planned remotely, via SMA TV, a missionary channel dedicated to evangelization. Their presence in person, he noted, makes direct interaction with participants possible, encouraging the exchange of experiences and hands-on learning.

During the training sessions, participants will deepen their knowledge and acquire practical tools to make the Church’s missionary communications more effective, with particular emphasis on producing and sharing multimedia content and exploring the opportunities offered by artificial intelligence. This is especially relevant in a context where social media have become one of the main spaces for interaction and communication, including the proclamation of the Christian message.

Integrating multimedia communication and artificial intelligence into missionary activities is intended to address the challenges of the digital environment while harnessing its potential to tell the story of the mission, foster communion and reach people and communities beyond the traditional settings of pastoral ministry. Technology is thus being placed at the service of proclaiming the Gospel and strengthening collaboration among the various Comboni communities and institutions.

For the Comboni Missionaries, technology remains a tool at the service of mission, evangelization and communion.
