AMERICA/DOMINICAN REPUBLIC - Appointment of the Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On June 26, 2025, Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization (Section for First Evangelization and New Particular Churches), appointed Father José Alberto Lora Guzmán as National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) of the Dominican Republic for the five-year period 2025-2030.
Born on April 22, 1971, he holds a degree in philosophy from the Catholic University "Madre y Maestra" (1993-1998); He holds a licentiate in Religious Studies from the Pontifical Seminary of Saint Thomas Aquinas (1993-2001), and a Master's degree in Human Development from the Free International University of the Americas (ULIA, 2012-2013). He also earned a degree in Marriage, Family, Society, and the Common Good from the Mexican Institute of Christian Social Doctrine (2013-2014).
From 2003 to 2011, he was a professor at the Catholic Technological University of Cibao, He has held several positions in the Diocese of Baní, including vicar in three parishes between 2006 and 2009, and diocesan director of the PMS from 2009 to 2011, a position he resumed in 2018 and continues to hold today. Between 2009 and 2011, he also served as diocesan director of pastoral care and administrator in two parish communities. In January 2011, he left for Cuba as a missionary for three years, in the diocese of the Most Holy Savior of Bayamo-Manzanillo, where he held various positions before returning to Bani in 2013, where he was appointed parish priest of San Francisco Javier for one year. From 2014 to 2018, he was parish priest of San José (Ocoa), in 2018, parish priest of Nuestra Señora del Carmen (Doña Ana), in 2021, and since 2018, parish priest of Santa Cruz (Yaguate).
