Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On December 19, 2023, Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, appointed Rev. Father Abraham Gebremariama as National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) of Ethiopia for a five-year period.
Father Gebremariam, 52 years old, 20 years of ordination, from the Apostolic Vicariate of Hosanna, studied theology at St. Francis Theological Institute and obtained a Bachelor Divinity at the Pontifical Urbaniana University of Rome; he also studied civil law and obtained a diploma from Alpha University College in Addis Ababa.
He served as assistant parish priest in two parishes and worked in elementary, middle and high schools.
He has been parish priest in several parishes and, in the Apostolic Vicariate of Hosanna, he is also a member of the group of "Peace Builders", which strives to resolve conflicts, whatever and wherever they occur. He is currently parish priest in Doyogena. In addition to English, he speaks and writes local languages: Amharic, Kemabata and Hadiya. (EG) (Agenzia Fides, 22/4/2024)
