PATTAYA, Thailand (UCAN) -- Archbishop Malcolm Ranjith has urged the Church in Asia "to strengthen the faith and missionary formation of Catholics in Asia as soon as possible."
The Sri Lankan prelate, secretary adjunct of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples at the Vatican, also encouraged the bishops of Asia to move ahead with plans to hold their own mission congress.
He offered these recommendations and others in an inaugural address he presented during a symposium on "Evangelization in the Light of 'Ecclesia in Asia,'" held Sept. 3-8 in Pattaya, 100 kilometers southeast of Bangkok.
Some 60 bishops, lay delegates, priests and Religious attended the event, which was organized by the Office of Evangelization (OE) of the Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences (FABC).
