PATTAYA, Thailand (UCAN) -- Archbishop Malcolm Ranjith
has urged the Church in Asia "to strengthen the faith and missionary
formation of Catholics in Asia as soon as possible."
The Sri Lankan prelate, secretary adjunct of the Congregation for
the Evangelization of Peoples at the Vatican, also encouraged the
bishops of Asia to move ahead with plans to hold their own mission
congress.
He offered these recommendations and others in an inaugural address
he presented during a symposium on "Evangelization in the Light
of 'Ecclesia in Asia,'" held Sept. 3-8 in Pattaya, 100 kilometers
southeast of Bangkok.
Some 60 bishops, lay delegates, priests and Religious attended the
event, which was organized by the Office of Evangelization (OE)
of the Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences (FABC).
