From Ad Gentes decree
"Missionary activity is nothing else and nothing less than
a manifestation or epiphany of God's will and the fulfilment of
that will in the world and in world history." (9)

| A VARIETY
OF MISSIONARY VOCATIONS |
Although all Christians are called to co-operate with the Church's
missionary activity, not all are called to proclaim the Gospel to
the nations, on the frontiers of the Church or in other nations
and peoples. The missionary vocation ad gentes is a specific call. There
are people who set out for other countries beyond the Christian
world and they are commonly called missionaries: but this is a special
vocation within the calling of all Christ's disciples to cooperate
with his mission. It is possible therefore to be missionary in many
ways, first of all as a person who consecrates all or part of his
or her life to mission ad gentes. If this vocation was once reserved
to priests and religious today it is taken up by a growing number
of lay persons of all ages and social conditions.
