ACTA OF THE HOLY SEE - AFRICA/SOUTH AFRICA - The Pope appoints new Auxiliary Bishop of Durban

Vatican City (Fides Service) - The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI on 10 October 2005 appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Durban (South Africa) Rev. P. Barry Wood, OMI, until now Vicar General of the same archdiocese, assigning him the titular See of Babra.
The new Auxiliary Bishop was born on 13 June 1942 at Port Elisabeth. He studied in South Africa and in the United States obtaining a diploma in Spirituality. He made his perpetual vows as a member of the Congregation of the Oblate Missionaries of Mary Immaculate (OMI) in 1965 and was ordained a priest on 14 July 1968. Since then he has been: Parish priest in Zulu Missions in the archdiocese of Durban (1968-1974); Director of OMI Pre-novitiate OMI (1977-1978); novice master Southern African Region (1979-1983); Rector and Professor OMI Scholasticate (1987-1992); provincial Superior for Natal (1992-1998); Parish priest at Woodlands and Vicar general archdiocese of Durban (1999-2002); since 2002 service in the Curia of the archdiocese of Durban.
