OCEANIA/AUSTRALIA - Local Church launches ‘Catholic Australia’ newsletter on the web: first issue focuses on World Mission Sunday

Sydney (Fides Service) - With a brand new publication “Catholic Australia” a newsletter on the Internet, the Catholic Church in Australia aims to provide Catholic parishes, schools, religious communities, lay associations and movements with regular updated service of information on church structures and events.
Besides news on events, the monthly newsletter will devote space to a variety of subjects, ranging from Church History, Spirituality and Theology, to pages for the laity, young people, education, study, catechesis and reflections on matters of interest and the relation between life and faith as well as a special section for questions and answers.
The first issue now online is devoted to a great extent to World Mission Sunday celebrated by Catholics all over the world on the last Sunday in October, this year 23 October. The letter recalls that the origin and aim of the Day is to increase missionary awareness and participation of Catholics in the Church’s missionary work and the challenges facing this mission to evangelise in Oceania today.
This first issue also focuses on the universally loved Saint Francis of Assisi, whose feast day is October 4. “Catholic Australia” illustrates the essential traits of Franciscan charisma and provides information on Australia’s Franciscan communities and activities. “Catholic Australia” Spirituality section is one activity entrusted to local Franciscans.
“Catholic Australia” has the support of the Communications Office of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Australia and is produced in partnership by different religious orders and communities all over the country some thousands of miles apart in touch not only with prayer but also with a click of the mouse.
