Vatican City (Fides Service) - Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples appointed 14 February 2005 Rector of Our Lady of Lanka National Seminary the diocese of Kandy (Sri Lanka), Rev. D. Anthony Jayakody Arachige of the clergy of the archdiocese of Colombo.
The new Rector was born on 2 October 1958 in Colombo. He studied at the national seminary in Ampitiya (Kandy) from 1978 to 1985, he then continued his studies in Rome, at the Pontifical Urban University obtaining a Licentiate in philosophy. He was ordained a priest on 27 August 1985 in St Lucy’s Cathedral Lucia Colombo. He ministered in various parishes before joining the teaching staff at the National Seminary where since 2003 he has been director of the Philosophy Section. (S.L.)
