ASIA/SOUTH KOREA - Bishops and Buddhist leaders send good wishes message to Pope Benedict XVI that he may “promote peace in the world”

Seoul (Fides Service) - After the Mass for the inauguration of the ministry of Pope Benedict XVI religious leaders in Korea sent messages of congratulations and best wishes to the new Holy Father. Archbishop Andreas Choi Chang-mou of Kwangju President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea expressed “hearty congratulations on behalf of the Bishops and all Catholics in Korea”, and the “prayer that the Vicar of Christ will promote peace in the world and proclaim the Gospel of Christ, continue to side with the poor and the excluded and promising prayers that he may always be assisted in his pastoral ministry by the Holy Spirit.
Jogye Buddhist leaders in Korea also sent a message to the Pope: “We Buddhists in Korea welcome the new Pope. We expect him to play an important role to help solve human conflicts and restore peace in the peninsula of Korea and the rest of the world ”.
