ASIA/SOUTH KOREA - Reconciliation between North and South Korea: wish of Archbishop of Seoul in Lenten message

Seoul (Fides Service) - Meditation and conversion of heart were the main topics in a Lenten Message issued by Archbishop Nicholas Cheong Jin-suk of Seoul. In the message “A Life of forgiveness and Reconciliation” the Archbishop explained that conversion is the fruit of prayer, fasting and acts of charity “sharing what we have with those in need is a good way to live the season of Lent” he said.
Recalling that this year Korea will celebrate the 60th anniversary of its liberation, Archbishop Cheong said he hoped this would be a year of peace reconciliation between North and South Korea so that many families still separated by the “bamboo curtain” may be reunited. He said Lent is a call to conversion for individuals and for communities: “Christians in the society of today who believe in Jesus Christ and follow him, should be the first to offer the example of conversion”. He said that for Catholics in Seoul “conversion” means becoming a community which is open and welcoming, as it was underlined by participants at the recent Archdiocese Pastoral meeting for clergy and laity.
