ASIA/CHINA - We are getting calls from Catholics all over China asking about the Pope’s health and promising prayers, says editor of local Catholic newspaper

Hebei (Fides Service) - Also Catholics in China are concerned for the health of Pope John Paul II and are praying fervently for his speedy recovery, Rev. Zhang Shi Jiang, editor of a local Catholic newspaper Faith published in Hebei told Fides. The newspaper is a major source of information for Catholics in China and is read also by Chinese speaking Catholics overseas: “This morning many people came to a special Mass offered for the Pope and special prayers were said. The newspaper is an important source of information for Catholics in China and we are getting telephone calls from all over China asking about the Holy Father and assuring us of prayers for him. We give them all the news we have and thank them for their prayers and also ask them to spread the news and ask others to prayer for the Holy Father”.
