ASIA/TAIWAN - Debate on social communications in the Churches of Asia: believers should make more use of the media to evangelise

Taipei (Fides Service) - “Communicating through Dialogue” was the theme of a recent seminar held in Indonesia organised by the Department for Social Communications of the FABC, Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences. In the final statement participants called on Christians all over Asia to make better use of the means of communications “which make it possible to transmit the Christian message and moral values to a vast audience”.
According to Christian Life Weekly (Taipei diocesan weekly), 65 Catholic media experts from 20 Asian countries met in Indonesia at the end of 2004 to discuss how to promote better use of the media for the mission of the Church. Bishops, priests and lay men and women involved in the field of communications took part in the seminar exchanging experiences and ideas and making suggestions on how the media can be used for evangelisation.
