Seoul (Fides Service) - On the occasion of its 150th anniversary the Catholic University of Korea renewed its commitment to work on the cultural level to promote respect for human rights, freedom of religion first of all in North Korea.
Some 400 people, besides students, teachers and other staff, university rector Father Simon Oh Chang-seon and several Bishops, attended a Jubilee Mass at the university chapel presided by Archbishop Nicholas Cheong of Seoul.
One of the bidding prayers was for religious freedom for the people of North Korea. Archbishop Cheong said in his homily: “It is our hope that in the world of today dominated by materialism and egoism, our Catholic University may educate young people to respect for human life and the human person”.
“In these 150 years - said Rector Oh Chang-seon - the university has worked to educate its students to respect for the human person in the spirit of the Gospel. This anniversary is an opportunity to renew our identity and our commitment to pursue our goals to serve truth, life and love ”.
The college, renowned for its quality education and services and now a national reference point, received messages of congratulations and gratitude from all over the country on the occasion of its 150th anniversary.
