VATICAN - The Pope’s teaching at the general audience: “In the Mystery of Christmas we contemplate a ‘leap in quality’ in the history of salvation. Although our sin has separated us from God, in Christ we are offered the gift of a new and fuller communion with Him”

Vatican City (Fides Service) - “At Christmas we will contemplate the great mystery of God made man and born of the Virgin Mary. He is born in Bethlehem to share our fragile human condition! He comes to live amongst us and he bring salvation to the whole world. His mission will be to gather individuals and peoples into the one family of the children of God.” This morning the Pope dedicated his teaching at the General Wednesday audience to Christmas.
The Pope said “At Christmas, we contemplate the great mystery of God becoming man in the Virgin’s womb so as to share our fragile human condition. He comes among us and brings salvation to the whole world. Although our sin has separated us from God, in Christ we are offered the gift of a new and fuller communion with Him. Hope springs up in our hearts, and the gates of heaven are opened for us.” The Pope wished those present a Happy Christmas and he said he hoped it would be “an opportunity to live in profundity the value and significance of the great event of the birth of Jesus.” (S.L.)
