SCIENCE AND MEDICINE - ASIA/CHINA - China has the second highest number of HIV+ people in Asia. Family Planning Ministry warns that the country could have 10 million HIV carriers in 2010

Rome (Fides Service) - China could have as many as 10 million carriers of HIV virus which spread AIDS by the year 2010 unless serious measures are taken. The alarm was sounded by the Chinese Family Planning Ministry during a recent meeting in Shanghai on population growth and development.
It is estimated that today in mainland China the total number of HIV+ is 840,000. This puts China 2nd on the list of Asian countries and 14th on the list of world countries for the number of persons with HIV virus which spreads AIDS. (AP) (29/10/2004 Agenzia Fides; Righe:12; Parole:120)
