ASIA/TAIWAN - Bishop Padilla, Prefect of Prefecture Apostolic Ulaanbaator in Mongolia, shares his missionary experience

Taipei (Fides Service) - Recently Catholics in Taiwan heard about missionary work in the mysterious and fascinating country of Mongolia when Bishop Padilla, formerly a missionary in Taiwan and today Prefect of Prefecture Apostolic Ulaanbaator, paid a visit to the island. Addressing a crowded meeting hall at Taipei Catholic Pastoral Centre Bishop Padilla recalled that after the fall of Communism in 1991, the Holy See wanted missionaries in Taiwan to go to Mongolia. Rev. Padilla, at the time was Superior of the Chinese province of the Scheut Missionaries in Taiwan. On 29 June 1992 he set out for Ulaanbaator to start a service of mission. Today the presence of a Catholic community is highly appreciated. The Bishop also spoke of the good work being done by various other institutions in Mongolia Divine Word Missionaries, Salesians, Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity all of which offer indispensable services of social assistance and healthcare as well as evangelisation.
