EUROPE/ITALY - General Charter of the Comboni missionary Sisters confirms Mother Adele Brambilla come Superior general for another term

Rome (Fides Service) - On 23 September the 18th Chapter of the Comboni Missionary Sisters being held in Rome, elected Mother Adele Brambilla Superior General for another six year term. After the election the chapter members went to the chapel to sing the Te Deum. Mother Adele, still deeply moved, spoke to her sisters quoting their founder, Saint Daniel Comboni, who said in a homily when he arrived in Khartoum to be Pro-vicar Apostolic: “I share the common cause of each of you,… your good will be mine, your suffering will be mine”, a phrase which she already used on the occasion of her first election. After her re-election, Mother Adele now identifies herself with the next words in the same homily: “I am aware of the weight of the responsibility but I accept it in the certainty that you will help me carry it with hope”.
Sr. Adele Brambilla was in Milan on 19 July 1949. She made her religious profession in 1973. From1973 to 1980 she studied in Britain for a Professional Nursing Diploma. In 1984 she went to work in an Italian hospital in Amman until 1996 when she was elected Provincial Superior. On 5 October 1998 she was elected 11th Superior General of the Comboni Missionary Sisters. On 22 December 1998 on behalf of King Hussein of Jordan, Prince Regent Hassan, presented Sr. Brambilla with the Jordan Independence Medal of First Order, for 15 years of service to the poor at Amman hospital. Today there are 1,659 "Pious Mothers of Africa ", or Comboni Sisters in Africa, America, Asia, Europe. (S.L.) (Agenzia Fides 24/9/2004; Righe 19; Parole 277)
