FIDES SIGNALS - PONTIFICAL LATERAN UNIVERSITY FOUNDED IN 1553 OPENS ACADEMIC YEAR. SPECIAL GUEST NOBEL PHYSICS PRIZE WINNER CARLO RUBBIA WILL SPEAK ON “SCIENCE AT THE SERVICE OF MANKIND”

Vatican City (Fides Service) – On 12 November the Pontifical Lateran University will inaugurate its CCXXXI academic year 2003-2004. Special guest for the occasion Nobel Physics Prize winner Carlo Rubbia, who will give a conference on “Science at the Service of Mankind”. The solemn academic act, attended by civil and ecclesiastical dignitaries, ambassadors, teachers students and staff, will be opened by the Grand Chancellor Cardinal Camillo Ruini, the Pope’s Vicar for the diocese of Rome, and an address by the University’s Rector Bishop Rino Fisichella, who will give a report of the activity 2002-2003 and prospects for the new academic year.
