AFRICA/ZIMBABWE - OPPOSITION TO PRESIDENT MUGABE ANNOUNCES WAVE OF STRIKES TO PROTEST GOVERNMENT ECONOMIC POLICY WHICH HAD LED THE COUNTRY TO COLLAPSE

Harare (Fides Service) – In Zimbabwe the Opposition is planning series of strikes to protest against President Robert Mugabe’s economic policies. “The country is collapsing” opposition leaders say “the people are starving to death”. Unemployment affects more than 70% of the labour force and the rate of inflation is 430%.
Food prices have rocketed in recent months and the government is considering the possibility of returning to price control.
