Seoul (Fides Service) – Sadang-dong parish in Seoul has launched a mission to re-evangelise the capital. The decision was reached at meeting in mid-July attended by more than 1,000 Catholics mostly lay people. The Mission will be carried out by members of Basic Church Communities a movement which “helps strengthen faith, increase communion and spirit of service in the community, in the footsteps of the early Christians” said Bishop Paul Kim Ok-kyun emeritus of Seoul. BCC communities organise prayer groups and Bible meetings in families.
The participants welcomed the new mission with enthusiasm, promising commitment. In the Autumn the lay missionaries will go from house to house in the capital, starting from their parish, with two aims: carry the Good News to those who have yet to encounter Jesus Christ and help those already baptised to rediscover the grace of baptism and to live as an adult Christian.
Bishop Kim is convinced that the mission, which will start after the Summer, will create among the laity more awareness of their role and responsibility, as well as build deeper communion and promote spiritual growth in the whole archdiocesan community.
