EUROPE/ITALY - BLESSED GIACOMO ALBERIONE AND ST JOHN BOSCO MOST POPULAR INTERNET PATRONS

Rome (Fides Service) - The final stage of a survey to select a patron saint for the Internet carried out by www.santiebeati.it closed at Easter. The two most popular names selected by web browsers from all over the world were Father Giacomo Alberione (whom Pope John Paul II will proclaim Blessed on Sunday 27 April) with 23,677 votes closely followed by Saint John Bosco with 23,668 votes. Some 77,000 voters joined in the quest. Other Saints who gained votes were St Alfonso de Liguori (9.9%), the Archangel Gabriel (8.2%) Saint Claire (7.4%) and St Maximilian Kolbe (7.4). Most of the voters were from Italy (38.9%) followed by the United States (13.7%), France (7.9%), and also Spain, Poland, Mexico, Brazil and 91 other countries. The results and reasons may be seen on the web page which promoted the survey. SL (Fides Service 25/4/2003 EM lines 13 Words: 158)
