Hong Kong (Fides Service) - Prince of Wales Hospital Hong Kong,
has opened a first web site with information and advice with regard
to the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome SARS. The sitewww.droid.cuhk.edu.hk
has already registered 71,3000 visits, many of them signed as
doctors.
The Prince of Wales Hospital has the highest number of patients
hospitalised in Hong Kong for SARS. The hospital administration
opened the web page in Chinese and English because of the lack
of proper information and advice about the virus. The site, opened
with the collaboration of the Chinese University of Hong Kong,
aims to provide help to doctors and nursing staff all over the
world who are fighting the spread of the virus.
On the web site visitors may even consult x-rays and not only
of patients at the Prince of Wales but also those in hospitals
in Singapore and the United States. In fact the centre for control
of the disease in the United States and the World Health Organisation
have set up links with www.droid.cuhk.edu.hk to enable doctors
and researchers to examine all available information in real time.
The head of the site, Dr Huang Jiade of the Prince of Wales Hospital,
Hong Kong, explained: "Since the outbreak of SARS many doctors
have asked for the results of our x-rays which are difficult to
communicate by phone. So we had the idea of setting up this special
Internet site to offer as much help as possible to the many people
involved in studying and fighting the SARS across the world. (Fides
