Zarqa (Fides Service) - Fides Service received via Internet this
testimony sent by Rev. A. Ursillo, an Orionini Missionary (Don
Orione's Little Work of Divine Providence) in the Arab country,
which we give here below.
"We send some news from this part of world geographically
so near to the war. First of all I would like to reassure you
about our situation. The news you hear through the Italian media
may be concerning, but in reality the situation is under full
control of the government.
There were demonstrations on Friday in some cities of Jordan,
but everything returned to normal and we continue to live and
carry on with our activity without any sort of problem. Sunday
Masses, meetings with young people and children, and school continue
serenely and the people live in tranquillity.
It is normal that in such times not much is said about the international
situation and the war. I go every day to Amman for Arabic School
but in the air there are no strong tensions and among the people
life flows normally. There are no assaults on shops to make food
provisions, no lines at the fuel stations to stock up with fuel
certainly
there is concern for the war which is so near, but so far this
has had no effect on daily life in Jordan.
With regard to the situation of refugees, I am in close contact
with Caritas Jordan, and they too are waiting. So far no refugees
have arrived in Jordan but we do not know how the situation will
evolve." SL (Fides Service 1/4/2003 EM lines 25 Words: 282)
