Valencia (Fides Service) - Mons. Austin Carcia-Gasco, archbishop
of Valencia Spain, in his letter with the title "Thou shall
not kill: God speaks clearly" holds that "Christians
cannot forget those who suffer because of the war in Iraq and
in all the wars forgotten by public opinion in rich countries".
At the same time - affirms the Prelate - "with the excuse
of news, we cannot fail to condemn the killing of terrorism that
unending war in the trenches which attacks the dignity of man
in our country and in many other nations of the world". Among
all the attacks on human life "terrorism is particularly
cruel" highlights Mons. Garcia-Gasco. This is why "there
are never any exceptional cases that can legitimate terrorism
as a means of defence against unjust oppression systematic and
prolonged" because terrorism "always sheds innocent
blood" Mons. Gasco calls attention to that fact that "at
times the intention to justify terrorism can be subtle, leading
to political reasons" which in reality never dispense from
ethnic and moral responsibility. Because "the end never justifies
the means". Moreover "the attitude to be silent before
terrorism, to lessens its moral gravity, is inadmissible, just
as neutrality before it is inadmissible". All Christians
and all people of good will "have the grave moral obligation
to express not only refusal and condemnation of terrorism, but
also every form of collaboration or justification of the same".
At the conclusion of his letter Mons. Gasco affirms that "only
starting from the principles of respect for life can peace be
guaranteed.". See
