Vatican City (Fides Service) - "It is a duty for believers,
regardless of the religion they belong to, to proclaim that we
can never be happy if we are against one another, the future of
humanity can never be assured by terrorism and the logic of war."
Once again on Sunday, 23 February 2003, during the midday Angelus
prayer with the people gathered in St Peter's Square, Pope John
Paul II voiced his concern for the present threat of war, and
he reminded those present that Christians must be "sentinels
of peace" wherever they live and work, and "to watch
out so that consciences may not yield to the temptation to egoism,
lying and violence." The Holy Father then invited "all
Catholics to dedicate with special intensity next 5 March, Ash
Wednesday, to prayer and fasting for the cause of peace, especially
in the Middle East." He urged the faithful to implore for
the gift of peace through the prayer the rosary: "I trust
that also in parishes and in families the Rosary will be prayed
for this great cause on which the good of all depends." See
