OCEANIA/TAHITI - PAPEETE DIOCESE PREPARES FOR YOUTH SYNOD

Papeete (Fides Service) - Since mid-December a diocesan committee, led by Fr Alain Mangeau, original from Montreal, Quebec in Canada, has been preparing questionnaires for a Youth Synod in the diocese of Papeete. Seven ad hoc commissions will deal with different topics: youth and the family, youth and the Church, the enemies of youth, youth and studies, youth and religious vocations, youth and leisure time, youth and happiness. The Synod, the 4th in Papeete diocese, is open to all young people between the ages of 15 and 25. At present Fr Alain has almost concluded a series of meetings with parish youth leaders, heads of associations and movements to discuss ideas for reflection in the different areas. When the questionnaires are returned each commission, after careful study of the responses will prepare a summary and a list of propositions. In October the young Synod participants will attend meetings to discuss and approve the propositions put forward by the commissions. The work of the Synod is expected to close in mid-November. This being the Year of the Rosary, the Bishop has placed the fruits of the Youth Synod into the hands of the Blessed Virgin Mary. (Fides Service 18/2/2003 EM lines 24 Words: 314)
