EUROPE/ITALY - INSECT TRANSMITTED DISEASES AND HOW TO PREVENT THEM: ADVICE FROM EQUIP OF EXPERTS AT SAPIENZA UNIVERSITY IN ROME

Rome (Fides Service) - To help people living and working in tropical countries and also travellers, many of whom, missionaries in particular, succumb to insect transmitted diseases, a group of medical experts at the Sapienza University in Rome, working daily in the field of infectious diseases, offers advice to avoid catching Dengue fever, transmitted by the Aedes mosquito, Nile fever, carried by the Culex mosquito, Lesimaniosis, carried by flebotomi, malaria carried by Anopheles mosquitoes. While there exist vaccines against yellow fever, carried by Aedes mosquitoes and malaria preventative medicine, although only with regular and repeated drug treatment, for other diseases as yet no vaccine or preventative treatment has been found.
