Vatican City (Fides Service) - "The permanent necessity of authentic spirituality of communion to animate ever more effectively the life and activity of Christians" was underlined on 13 February by Pope John Paul II during an audience granted to Bishops, friends of the Focolare Movement, taking part in a Conference on the theme "Spirituality of Communion: church unity and universal brotherhood". "Spirituality of communion is articulated in various elements which have their roots in the Gospel - the Pope continued - and these are enriched by the contribution made to the entire Christian community by the Focolare Movement committed to bearing witness to 'spirituality of unity'". The Pope also recalled that unity is the "testament" that Jesus left with his disciples; the dynamic character of "spirituality of communion" deriving from the bond existing between love of God and love for neighbour; the renewed impulse spirituality of communion gives to ecumenism and inter-religious dialogue. "The work of building spirituality of communion calls for the overcoming of every difficulty, misunderstanding and failure - the Pope concluded -. It is necessary to proceed without stopping along the path undertaken, confiding in the support of divine grace to give rise to authentic church unity and solid universal brotherhood".
