Manos Unidas (Joined Hands) has worked since 1960 to eliminate poverty, hunger, malnutrition, lack of education, underdevelopment. The campaign will include various initiatives to increase awareness among the people of Spain of the dramatic living conditions of millions of people all over the world. The main initiatives are: Day of fasting Friday 7 February in solidarity with those forced to "fast" every day. "A Supper of Hunger" in the evening of 7 February when the campaign participants will eat only bread and water and put the money saved towards a project of development in Ivory Coast. On Sunday 9 February the National Manos Unidas Day will begin with a special Mass presided by Bishop Juan Jose Asenjo Pergrina, secretary of the Spanish Bishops' Conference.
