Madrid (Fides Service) - "Development, the path for Peace"
is the motto of a Campaign to eliminate Hunger, organised by Manos
Unidas, Catholic NGO which begins today, 7 February, in Spain.
Manos Unidas (Joined Hands) has worked since 1960 to eliminate
poverty, hunger, malnutrition, lack of education, underdevelopment.
The campaign will include various initiatives to increase awareness
among the people of Spain of the dramatic living conditions of
millions of people all over the world. The main initiatives are:
Day of fasting Friday 7 February in solidarity with those forced
to "fast" every day. "A Supper of Hunger"
in the evening of 7 February when the campaign participants will
eat only bread and water and put the money saved towards a project
of development in Ivory Coast. On Sunday 9 February the National
Manos Unidas Day will begin with a special Mass presided by Bishop
Juan Jose Asenjo Pergrina, secretary of the Spanish Bishops' Conference.
This Sunday special collections all over Spain will be in support
of Manos Unidas projects in the south of the world. (Fides Service
