Africa/Burundi - Bishops approve peace agreement but two essential elements are still missing truth and trust

Bujumbura (Fides Service) - "Peace be with you and with your families! Peace be with Burundi! This is the greeting and wish that the Bishops of Burundi voice in a message to the people on the situation of the country. This wish comes from the heart of the Bishops who have a difficult task to care for people victim of civil war since 1993. A peace agreement reached and signed last year by government and rebels "gave reason for hope" the Bishops write and they continue "but it is not enough to sign an agreement. The agreement must be respected and put into practice. Two essential elements are missing: truth and trust. It is not possible to want peace and at the same time to continue with war, as we see today". See Bishop's message in French at www.fides.org (Fides Service 27/1/2003)
