In the Lombardy region some 25% of the 181,767 pupils enrolled for the year 2001-2002 were non-Italians. One initiative to promote integration in school is a web site www.centrocome.it . Centro Come is a social services co-operative opened by Caritas Milan in 1994. COME.Net provides information and counselling for teachers and pupils in multi-lingual and multi-cultural classes.
