Kinshasa (Fides Service) - The peace agreement reached in Pretoria
(South Africa) was signed by president Joseph Kabila, the Group
for Congolese Democracy (RCD) -Goma, and the Movement for the
Liberation of Congo MLC and a delegation of the civil society.
The agreement is that Kabila will remain president, flanked by
four vice-presidents representing the signing parties. Key ministries
Home, Defence, Foreign, are distributed among the government and
the two rebel movements. This executive will be in power for two
year followed by election for all parties. The agreement was reached
thanks to the mediation of South Africa which has worked for years
to restore peace in the Great Lakes region of Africa. (Fides Service
