Hong Kong (Fides Service) - In his letter for Advent, Rediscovering
the beauty of the Rosary, Bishop Joseph Zen of Hong Kong, encourages
his faithful to continue this Marian prayer which is very popular
among Chinese Catholics. Hong Kong would seem to be a city of
chaos, consumerism and materialism but in fact Hong Kong Catholics
are very spiritually minded and deeply devoted to Our Lady.
"When you kept vigil beside the body of His Eminence, the
late Cardinal Wu, you prayed the rosary with devotion. In my homily
I compared his life to the mysteries of the rosary. The Holy Father
has just issued a letter to the Catholics of the world encouraging
them to rediscover the beauty of the rosary
the Rosary is
a simple prayer, easy to say anyone can learn it. This prayer
helps us to have peace in our heart and to spread peace among
the people of Hong Kong so busy and preoccupied."
"When our heart is still Our Lady leads us to meditate the
mystery of Jesus
this helps us become more like him. Always
at difficult moments the great family of the Church has obtained
the protection of Our Lady through the prayer of the Rosary
during
the liturgical year we re-live the same mysteries of Christ that
we contemplate in the Rosary". (Fides Service 18/12/2002)
