Europe/Italy - Blind dancers from India join international campaign to eliminate leprosy

Rome (Fides Service) - Blind dancers from India will be the highlight of this year's International campaign to eliminate leprosy promoted by the AIFO Italian Association of the Friends of Raoul Follereau. The scourge of leprosy is still present in many parts of the world. To increase awareness among the public, a team of blind Indian Dancers of the Light from the Shree Ramana Maharishi Academy will make a tour of nine Italian cities beginning on 15 January with Bologna and ending in Rome on 1 February. The international anti-leprosy campaign will reach its peak on 26 January 2003, the 50th World Day of Solidarity for Leprosy Sufferers. On that day AIFO volunteers will sell "Solidarity Honey" at AIFO stands in a hundred Italian piazzas. The funds collected will provide assistance for leprosy patients in India a country which has 73% of the cases registered world wide every year. (Fides Service 17/12/2002)
