Seoul (Fides Service) - Catholics in Korea welcome the new Mysteries
of Light rosary meditations offered to the Church by Pope John
Paul II. The Bishops of Korea have called on Catholics to strengthen
the family and nation by praying the rosary: national reconciliation
and the sanctification of the home are the main objectives. In
a letter drafted for the occasion, Archbishop Andrew Choi Chang-mou
of Kwangju, president of the Bishops' Conference, says that the
Rosary prayer is a source grace and peace. "With the Rosary
we contemplate the beauty of the face of Christ, we experience
the depth of his love, we receive abundant grace through the intercession
of Mary" the Bishop writes. "In this new millennium,
the letter continues, where hatred and violence are widespread,
we must make the resolution to work to promote peace in the world,
and especially reconciliation and peace for our beloved land".
The Rosary is a most powerful prayer for the protection of the
family and for family peace. The light of Jesus, and his mysteries
of Light are a light for every family and for the whole world".
In early December the Korean Bishops approved the Korean translation
and presentation of the new Mysteries and private and public recitation
of the Rosary following the new pattern which highlights to public
ministry of Jesus, has already begun. Korean Catholics are deeply
devoted to Mary. (Fides Service 14/12/2002)
