Kinshasa (Fides Service) - There is no end to the flow of refugees
from Mambasa about 500 km east of Kisangani. At least ten thousand
men, women and children are fleeing conflict in Mambasa city which
the rebel group Movement for Congolese Liberation MLC led by Jean-Pierre
Bemba, took from another rebel group the Congolese Democratic
Coalition- Liberation Movement led by Mbusa Nyamwisi. "What
we cannot understand is why both groups are supported by Uganda"
a local sources tells Fides Service. "One possible explanation
is that Uganda wants to break up Congolese forces for its own
interests. In fact with the support of Western financial circles
Uganda is robbing Congo of its gold, diamonds and timber. Moreover
both Bemba and Nyamwisi want to reinforce their positions to have
more impact on peace talks in Pretoria, South Africa. The victims
of this struggle for power are as usual the civilians, to the
apparent complete indifference of western governments. It is our
duty to denounce the system of hegemonizing human life for power
and profit. In Congo since 1998 more than 2 million have been
killed in this war in which all sides are guilty: the various
countries involved, the rebels, merchants without scruples. With
the excuse of a "just war" ( can war ever be just?)
are robbing this marvellous country of its riches. An earthly
paradise has been plunged into hell by the egoism of greedy men."
