Windhoek (Fides Service) - The Church has always been concerned
for the wellbeing of the whole person, providing besides spiritual
care also medical and social assistance. At Tutzing in Namibia
there is a good example of how the Church cares for soul and body.
A former Convent of the Tutzing Benedictine Sisters, built in
1964, has been converted into the Windhoek Roman Catholic Hospital
with 80 beds. The two-storey building houses 12 fully equipped
consulting rooms, a laboratory and a casualty unit. At the inauguration
of the hospital Bishop Liborius Ndumbukutu, auxiliary of Windhoek,
commented happily " the Church's evangelisation process in
saving the soul from spiritual starvation does not excuse her
from looking after the bodily health of the people. The extension
of this health facility is one of the generous answers of the
Church in showing God's love and care.(Fides Service 12/12/2002)
