Europe/Spain - Recycled material to build nativity scenes

Valencia (Fides Service) - Franciscan Friar Conrad Estruch, aged 77, besides pastoral work, has spent more than 45 years building nativity scenes using recycled material: old radio and television sets, guitars, string, bamboo. He sells the Nativity Scenes to collect money for various charities, for needy families in Valencia, the Santa Isabel children's home, Provida association, missionaries in Equatorial Guina, Bolivia, Colombia and Honduras. Fr Conrad says: "I use things people have discarded to make something beautiful, following Jesus in the spirit of poverty". This year Friar Conrad and a group of lay persons, Friends of St Antonio, have built 600 nativity scenes which were blessed by Bishop Antonio Algora Hernando of Teruel, before being put on sale at a charity bazaar at the Capuchin Convent in Valencia.
