Abidjan (Fides Service) - "The next few hours will be decisive
for the country; there will probably be a decision either for
war or for peace", a local Church source tells Fides Service.
"Talks in Lome between government and rebels are at a standstill.
The end of the tunnel to the serious crisis which broke out in
mid September, when a group of military attempted a coup, is nowhere
in sight. At the moment anything could happen and people are afraid.
All over the country prayers for peace are being held. Ulterior
motive of tension the resignation of four ministers of the Republican
Union led by Alasanne Qattara, accused of supporting the insurgents,
who took shelter in the French embassy. This means the end of
the national unity government, formed in August this year, which
gave rise to so many hopes". (LM) (Fides Service 27/11/2002)
