Vatican City (Fides service) - The Holy Father,
Pope John Paul II has (19 November 2002) accepted the renunciation
of the pastoral government of the diocese of Abomey in Benin presented
by Bishop Lucien Monsi-Agboka, in conformity with the Code of Canon
Law, canon 401,1. On the same day the Pope appointed Bishop of the
diocese of Abomey in Benin, Reverend Father Rene-Marie Ehuzu, parish
priest of Cotonou cathedral.
The Bishop elect Reverend Father Rene-Marie Ehuzu was born on 12
April 1944 at Cotonou. He studied at home and in Ghana, and in London
and Paris, obtaining a degree in theology and a Licentiate in Languages
and Liturgy. He was ordained a priest on 30 September 1972. Since
1984 he has been a member of the Congregation of Jesus and Mary
(Eudists). Since his ordination he has been: professor at the major
seminary, parish priest, military chaplain, prison chaplain, bursar
at the major seminary, Community superior and master of ceremonies
to the archbishop. At present he is parish priest at Cotonou cathedral.
