Acta of the Holy See - Asia/Vietnam - Hai Phong: Rev. Joseph Vu Van Thien appointed Bishop
Vatican City (Fides service) - The Holy Father, Pope John Paul II has, (6 November 2002) appointed Bishop of the diocese of Hai Phong (Vietnam) Reverend Father Joseph Vu Van Thien of the clergy of the same diocese, professor of theology at the major seminary in Hanoi.
The Bishop elect Reverend Father Joseph Vu Van Thien was born on 26 October 1960 at Ke Sat, Hai Duong, diocese of Hai Phong. After secondary school he entered Hanoi major seminary in 1982 for studies in philosophy and theology. He was ordained a priest on 24 January 1988. Since then he has been: Bishop's Secretary and parish priest at My Dong (1988-94); parish priest at Dong Xa (1994-96); student of theology at the Catholic Institute in Paris (1996-00). Since 2000 he has taught theology at Hanoi major seminary. (Fides Service 26/11/2002)
