Beijing (Fides Service) - The ritual of the 16th Congress of
the Chinese Communist Party came to its customary triumphal ending.
Fides Service spoke with Chinese intellectual Prof. Liu in Beijing
an expert in Chinese policy. Prof. Liu said: The fourth generation
of political leaders has stepped up to the international scene.
This Congress means change for China, political, social, economic.
In fact Hu Jintao, successor of Jiang Zemin, said the main objective
of the new leaders will be to boost China's economy. I think he
realises the situation, but he is one of the few. We intellectuals
are pleased to have a engineer as political leader. It makes us
optimists. But we must also realise that the problems are enormous:
development, unemployment, crime, AIDS, drugs, corruption, power
struggle within the Party. The future is bright, but the road
is stony as the Chinese saying goes. We congratulate Companion
Hu and wish him every success". (Fides Service 25/11/2002)
