Seoul (Fides Service) - The Bishops of Korea and Japan hope to
expand the current Korean-Japanese Bishops Exchange Meeting to
include the Bishops of Taiwan and Hong Kong, convinced that that
larger scope will contribute to evangelisation in East Asia and
the development of the local Churches. This was agreed during
the 8th Bishops Exchange Meeting held in Korea at Aaaron Retreat
House in Uiwang-si Gyeonggi-do November 12 to 14. Bishop Peter
Kang-il, of Cheju, head of the Meeting "with these 8 meetings
we have built up friendship between the two countries. Now I think
we are laying the stepping-stones for reconciliation and unity
of two countries that still suffer from deep scars of the past."
Archbishop Peter Takeo Okada, vice president of the Japanese Bishops'
Conference, said "I believe good results will come out at
the next meeting also in preparation for the 2004 General Assembly
of the FABC". (Fides Service 25/11/2002)
