Cotonou (Fides Service) - The Church in Benin is living a very
happy moment, the pastoral zeal of clergy and religious is admirable,
vocations are flourishing, the laity is mature and committed,
and the local Church is already involved in mission cooperation
in other countries. The fruits of this "springtime"
of the Church in Benin were gathered recently by the Camillian
Fathers, who work in the field of health care. At their hospital
in Zinvie a new emergency section was recently blessed and also
new administration offices. The Camillian community welcomed six
local Brothers who made their perpetual profession in a parish
church that was overflowing with people. At Ouidah Cathedral 2
Camillian priests were ordained in the presence of 500 people,
and twenty concelebrating priests. Thirdly, a new Centre was opened
in Cotonou. Besides offering accommodation to university students,
the house will be the centre of diocesan pastoral activities.
