Lezhe (Fides Service) - "The context of your apostolic activity
today is not very different from that of the early Church
you
encounter in fact situations similar to those faced by Peter and
Paul, Barnabas and Sila, Timothy and Tito. And yet those men,
feeble and fearsome like us, became, thanks, to the Master of
Nazareth, privileged witnesses of his life, a living memory of
his passion, death and resurrection." The last event for
Cardinal Sepe on his 8-12 November visit to the Church in Albania,
was a meeting with the clergy and religious men and women of the
diocese of Lezhe and Rreshen to whom he voiced gratitude and esteem
and encouragement. "I am aware of your tireless pastoral
ministry as well as the difficult conditions under which you carry
out your missionary work" the Cardinal said, stressing the
need in this context to have an "intense ascetic and formative
reference to that source of life which is Christ himself".
Cardinal Sepe urged the priests "to live with joy the reality
of the priesthood", also to ensure vitality of the Christian
communities: "The Faith of a Church is certainly a gift for
which we must thank the Lord, but it is also a task, a patrimony
and a heritage placed in our hands to be safeguarded, protected
and strengthened". Lastly Cardinal Sepe asked three things
of the clergy and religious: to work out a co-ordinated and effective
plan for vocation pastoral, to involve the laity in missionary
work, to eliminate with courage anything in culture not in keeping
with the Gospel, "the fruit will be peace" he said.
