Vau-Dejes (Fides Service) - A call to "return to the path
of the mission in quality and quantity" was launched by Cardinal
Sepe during the Mass celebrated in the afternoon of Sunday November
10 at Vau-Dejes in Sape diocese, where most of the clergy is missionary.
Cardinal Sepe said first of all that he came with the Pope's special
blessing for the Catholic community. In his homily he recalled
that the diocese is rich in history but that it has suffered much
tribulation: "you may ask who will save us from the hell
we have experienced? The answer is Christ, who is always with
us. He was with you in the dark years of the catacombs, he is
with you now and he will be until the end of the world."
The Prefect of Propaganda Fide encouraged the people to overcome
the hesitation which dampens missionary zeal and to accompany
and encourage the work of missionaries with prayer and affection.
"Intense and capillary evangelisation is necessary throughout
your diocese - Cardinal Sepe said - to help your people strengthen
the faith transmitted more through witness than with words. You
must work swiftly and well: the Christian future of Sape depends
on it". Most of all, young people need evangelising: "attracted
by many idols offered by the media, especially foreign media,
luring them with illusory mirages of happiness
". Lastly
the Cardinal praised "exceptional activity of the lay faithful"
who work on the frontiers of mission and need "special formation".
The Cardinal's final call was to foster vocations. See
