Rrëshen (Fides Service) - "After the dark years of
persecution, at last the Catholic community in Rrëshen has
a place in which to celebrate the Sacred Mysteries that express
the most important moments of Christian life" these words
pronounced with joy this morning Saturday November 9, by Cardinal
Sepe during his homily for the Mass of Consecration of the new
Cathedral of Rrëshen, expressed the emotion of all Catholics
in Albania, as they taste the joy of newly found religious freedom.
"I am very happy to be here, accompanied by your Pastor Mons.
Cristoforo Palmieri, CM., to consecrate this new Cathedral of
Rrëshen dedicated to "Jesus, only Saviour of the world
- the Cardinal said - Through this liturgical celebration, the
building will become a house of God, a special place in which
to adore God who lives among us. Here we will offer hospitality
to the Lord and here we will also learn to recognize each other
as brothers and sisters and to build up, day after day, a living
and fruitful community of faith. It is with particular satisfaction
that I bring to you for this special occasion, the embrace and
the blessing of the Holy Father." Explaining the symbols
of the liturgy Cardinal Sepe underlined that that "consecration
is a question not so much of things, as of ourselves as persons
who believe in God and desire to belong to him" and therefore
we too today consecrate everything and everyone to God: our lives,
the children, young people, families, the elderly; the past, the
present, the future." Lastly the Prefect of the Congregation
for the Evangelisation of Peoples reminded those present of the
duty to strive for holiness "a daily commitment of every
baptised person" and he urged married couples to remain faithful
to the promises of Christian marriage educating their children
with witness and words. See
complete homily and also an interview
with Mgr Palmieri, Apostolic Administrator of Rreshen. (Fides
